कुछ तुम कहना
कुछ हम भी कहेंगे

उस घर की वो दीवार 
जिसपर यादे लगाया करते थे
रोज़ सुबह खटखटा के 
दफ्तर को जाया करते थे 

कभी आना
थोड़ी बाते करेंगे

पुरानी बाते याद कर
थोड़ा मिलकर फिर हसेंगे

PS: My first attempt at writing a poem in Hindi. I have been trying to write one for so long, I just couldn't find the words. I mean literally. As much as I would like to think, my Hindi is apparently not that great when it comes to writing. And there is something about writing poems in the language that adds the dimension of depth that I just don't feel in English. This is just the first draft. I hope to finish it soon.

A lot has been happening in our country over the last few weeks. There has been a lot of talk about it in every form of media available. Birthdays are a lot of fun, if you are a kid. As an adult, birthdays become annoying. I think it is a bell curve, wherein the beginning you don’t care about your birthday because let’s face it, you are much too young. This interest or enjoyment increases with time when you are a kid and finally understand that birthday = gifts, and then comes back slumping when society thinks you are much too big to be wearing a birthday cap and blowing out candles. I am one of those people who always dread their birthdays. Somehow because you expect your birthday to be special, and as a grownup, there isn’t much special left to be done in life, ice cream cakes are not a novelty anymore and any money you get goes towards your credit card fund and not to buy a magnifying glass and playing detective. I recently read in a book called "The Trust" that if it is love at first sight, you should run in the other direction, as fast as you can. But that is not true in my case of falling in love with Goa! Goa has a piece of my heart. You must be thinking hmm Goa is a pretty good place! The beach, cheap booze, extreme chill, I get it how one could want to go there but love? Isn't that a bit too much? Well, let me give you guys some context. For me, Goa is my second home. It is where I have spent four wonderful, blissful and adventurous years. I did my engineering from BITS Pilani Goa and over the course of those four years, I fell in love with the place. The brightly colored houses, the air which almost smells like the ocean and even the incessant rains. The winter refuses to end. It gets warm for a couple of days, I declare that winter has finally come to an end, and what do I wake up the next morning? Ahh! It has rained again, so crawl under your blankets people. This touch and go winter game, has caught up with me. Unable to go to work, I decide to work on my blog today. I was going through my older blog posts and came across one called Clutter, where I talk about how all the clutter/junk we have in our lives is not non-sensical junk but actually tidbits of memories, each telling us a different story. Just last night I was sitting with my friend. Both of us in living room, trying to decide on a gift for the upcoming birthday of a friend. In all of this we opened his Facebook profile and started looking at pictures, hoping something somewhere would give us a hint. And let me tell you looking through old photos on Facebook late at night with your college bestie is a mistake. Do not get sucked it. So yeah, there we are innocently looking at pictures and MTV that has been playing horrible music, suddenly decides to give us a soft background music through this, pushing us deeper down the memory lane. It hasn't even been a year since we left college, so the wound is still pretty fresh. And we got to reminiscing. Hate is Heavy

Over the past few days, I have come to a realization: emotions like love and hate are, as a matter of fact, quite exhausting. They occupy your headspace, consume your time, impact your work, and, generally speaking, affect your entire life. They require a significant amount of effort, but, of course, love brings happiness while hate can drive one to madness. It is a burden to carry around. Considering we all already have some baggage to carry, imagine having to carry hate as well. I mean, goodness, the work involved! You have to complain about them daily until everyone in your vicinity knows about them and can recite your story. Then, people get bored, and you need more content, so you have to delve deeper, overanalyze things, and engage in mandatory social media stalking. And let's not forget about those voodoo dolls in the closet that need attention. Uff! It's so much work to hate people! But on a serious note, it does take a toll on you. Oxford dictionary defines discrimination as  "The unjust or prejudicial treatment of different categories of people" Since we were kids we all have been reading about discrimination prevailing in the world. It took different forms through different times and ages. It was against the blacks in America, lower casts in India or the Jews in Europe and women all across the world. And in retrospect, this has always come to a bad end, where we eventually realize our mistakes and have to correct them.  You will see that discrimination still persists in our society but on a much smaller scale than before. I would attribute this to the rise in education levels and increase in sensitivity in people and rules put in place to ensure this does not happen.  As a child, I had always only read about different kinds of discrimination so never really got the concept.
